Police absent, problems present

Chennai, 20 February 2015 : Motorists face difficulties at Ambattur Industrial Estate road. Vehicles coming from Padi, Anna Nagar and heading towards Ambattur meet with those coming from Korattur and moving towards Mugappair or Ayanambakkam.

Traffic movement is heavy on the intersection of Ambattur Industrial Estate Road and Mugappair main road. With the absence of a policeman to regulate the movement of vehicles, motorists are finding it difficult to reach their destination on time.

Hundreds of vehicles cross this  intersection on a daily basis and traffic comes to a halt during peak hours, says Kannan, a resident. Similarly, vehicles coming from Korattur and proceeding towards Mugappair or Ambattur Industrial Estate also pass through this junction.

As there is no traffic signal or a regularly appointed policeman, crossing this intersection becomes more difficult says Sumathi, a college student.

As vehicles try to proceed without taking care of others, there are more chances, of accidents taking place. Sometimes, this goes unreported as none of them stop as they had to reach their places on time, says Parthiban, a resident of Padi. Commuters are finding it difficult to cross the junction. They had to wait and most of the time, they just pass through the junction without considering the risk involved, he adds.

For senior citizen the situation is even worse. Seeing their apathy, few motorists stop the vehicles and allow the elderly persons to cross the junction. Most of the residents feel that the authorities can put up an automatic signal to regulate the traffic.

Also, the traffic department can allot a policeman permanently or it can conduct meetings with residents welfare associations and ask for volunteers to help free flow of traffic movements during peak hours, says Mathiyazhagan, a resident of Ambattur.
